Sherwood Park workshop offers introduction to bonsai cultivation

The cultivation of bonsai has been practiced for centuries, and is a way of representing the natural world on a very small scale. Taking a seat in a Sherwood Park workshop can help those who are interested get off to a good start.

Salisbury Greenhouse will be hosting a class that will be all about the relaxing and often rewarding hobby of looking after bonsai. The students will learn about the history of the art form, and will also learn whether a deciduous or evergreen plant, or growing it indoors or out, is the best choice for them.

The learners will discover the basic of bonsai care, including how to transplant the tree. They will also find out how techniques such as pruning and wiring can be used to create the classical bonsai shapes and planting styles.

The registration fee for the workshop includes a starter pack that will be filled with a tree, shallow container, wire, fertilizer and soil. To help prevent the spread of diseases and pests, the students have been asked to not bring in any outside plant material, and all the tools will be provided. Care instruction sheets can be helpful for the learners in a workshop like this once they are at home, and Stationery printers supply them.

This opportunity to discover a new hobby will be offered on October 26. It will start at 10:00 am at 52337 Range Road 232.
