The 4th annual Alberta Arts Days consist of mainly free events which aim to engage local artists, to teach the public about local arts groups and to help them discover the joy of all the creative arts. For Albertans it is
“an annual celebration of our culture, heritage, artistic diversity and provincial pride.”
Those attending receive a passport that gets stamped at every site visited and are eligible for door prizes. Sites participating in Alberta Arts Days include community and cultural organizations, art galleries and artists workshops. The 5 featured sites for 2011 are the Creative Airdrie Society, Calgary Public Libraries, Fort MacLeod and District Allied Arts Council Association, Blue Quills First Nations College and the Arts and Culture Council of Strathcona County. Some of the 64 host sites are located in such places as Banff, Calgary, Medicine Hat and Spruce Grove.
Among events at this year’s Alberta Art Days will be a playwriting contest sponsored by StArts Fest of St. Albert which is open to local area writers only. Other organizations taking part in Alberta Arts Days are the CBC and the Writer’s Guild of Alberta.
