The Sherwood Park area is home to lots of farming families, and an upcoming event will help kids learn how to provide care for their horse in an emergency situation.
The I Can Help Equine Safety and First Aid class is designed for kids from the ages of 5 to 12, and it will teach the fundamentals of equine first aid and also how to be safe around their horse. This hands-on session will run for three hours, and admission is $59 each.
The activity will teach how to read a horse’s body language for clues to its overall health and wellness, and the group will also learn how to decide if their equine companion is ill or injured and what to do and who to tell. The basics of wound care and bandaging are on the agenda, and there will be other topics covered as well.
At the end of the workshop, the participants will all go home with a workbook so they can keep on learning, and they will also receive a certificate with a special graphic design that they can frame and keep to show they have completed the training.
This kid-friendly introduction to equine first aid is scheduled for February 10th. It will be on offer at Birch Bay Ranch, which is located at 51505 Range Road 215.
