Four firefighters from Strathcona County Emergency Services have been camping on the roof of Fire Station 6 in Sherwood Park to raise awareness of and funds for Muscular Dystrophy.
The four-day camp ends today, and was launched with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the fire hall. Signs and Posters have been created to promote the cause and raise awareness of the firefighters’ efforts. Residents lined the street in support of the firefighters.
At the same time, firefighters are holding ‘boot drives’ at multiple locations in hopes of raising additional donations. They are also auctioning off two private dinners with firefighters. One dinner will take place at the Fire Station 6 in Sherwood Park, while the other will be at the winner’s home. Both meals will be prepared and served by firefighters. The starting bid for each is $500.
The fundraising originally began because one firefighter’s son was suffering from Muscular Dystrophy and was having a difficult time making ends meet to give the boy all the care he needed. His fellow firefighters literally took a boot onto the street and began asking passersby for donations to help the family. Soon after, several fire departments began taking on the cause to raise awareness and funds for this condition.
This group’s goal is to raise $25,000 for Muscular Dystrophy this year. Anyone is welcome to donate online on the Muscular Dystrophy Facebook page, as well as at other locations such as the Sherwood Park Mall. Get a Free Quote for Posters Get a Free Quote for Signs
