Safe at home session set for Sherwood Park

Being alone at home for the first time may be a milestone in a young person’s life, and thanks to a local event, Sherwood Park kids will be able to do so safely.

The county will be running a session of its “At Home by Yourself” workshop, which will be on offer at no cost to families. It offers a fun way for kids to gain confidence in their ability to be their own, and a variety of topics are on the agenda.

The learners in the session will discuss general safety, as well as how and when to use the area's 9-1-1 dispatch service. Different types of emergencies and how to deal with them will be reviewed, and the group will also talk about how to recognize and address common household hazards. A brief introduction to first aid and other tips will be presented, and the activity is targeted to those from age 8 to 12.

The listing for the class explains that the venue is accessible to anyone who requires a wheelchair or other mobility device. Handouts, as well as custom-designed certificates of completion for a learning activity like this one, can be prepared by Stationery printers.

Sherwood Park’s Community Centre, located at 401 Festival Lane, will be the venue for this in-person workshop. It has been planned for October 3rd, starting at 6:00 pm.
