Young people in Sherwood Park who are considering offering their services as a babysitter are invited to take part in a course designed to give them the skills and confidence they need to be effective in the role.
The Red Cross will be offering its Babysitter Safety Course, which will cover a variety of topics that sitters can put to good use. They will learn about their responsibilities and rights, how to look for jobs and how to conduct themselves during an interview, care techniques for babies and toddlers, and accident prevention. In addition to these topics, they will also be taught first aid, how to prevent fires and poisonings, and also how to address discipline problems should they arise.
The one-day workshop is presented in a hands-on and fun learning format. Those who successfully complete the coursework will be given a Red Cross Babysitting Certificate. Comb binding can be used to create Booklets and other educational materials for training sessions such as this.
The course is open to those from ages 11 to 16, and will run from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm on August 17 at the Sherwood Park United Church at 20 Fir Street. They are asked to bring along a water bottle, indoor shoes, and a floppy doll or stuffed animal that lays flat.
