Prairie Pop Art exhibit still open

The Prairie Pop Art exhibit is running at Picture This! Framing and Gallery in Sherwood Park until August 30. The artists taking part in this exhibit are Steven Csorba and Don McLeod. Pop art has both influenced commercial art and been influenced by it. Those in the printing services often take inspiration from such artistic movements as the Pop Art movement.

The Pop Art movement has been around since the 1960s in New York. Two of the most famous Pop artists are Andy Warhol and Ray Lichtenstein, both of whom had experience working as commercial artists. The two artists in this exhibit have had much success with their art. Steven Csorba is well-known for his portraits of such sports figures as Wayne Gretsky and Muhammad Ali, as well as works for about the Olympic Games. He is an award winning printmaker whose work appears in such places as the National Museum of Sports. He is from Edmonton. Dean McLeod is from Eston, Saskatchewan. His work is very reminiscent of Andy Warhol. He is well-known for his colour saturated canvases and his handmade frames. Both artists are good representatives of the Pop Art genre.

Included in the Prairie Pop Art exhibit are painting, sculptures and prints. They all are meant to represent the “imagery of popular or mass culture.”

Picture This! Framing and Gallery hold many art shows throughout the year which are well received by the general public. Admission to the gallery and the shows are all free.
