New print press unveiled at polytech institute

Competing institutes of higher learning, and even firms offering banner printing in Sherwood Park should look to developments at the South Alberta Institute of Technology to see what strides they can make. At an open house, the institute invited professionals of Alberta’s printing community to marvel at the kinds of high-quality prints that their new Heidelberg Speedmaster 52 could achieve.

Driven by a modern, computer-powered interface, the Heidelberg Speedmaster 52 features a four-color, 20-inch SM 52 press, and this is a sizable step up from what even industry workplaces offer, which is merely a four-color style press. The problem at institutes like SAIT had been that they had struggled to give students a decent perspective of the kinds of equipment they would use when they would graduate and move to the workforce—but no more with the acquisition of this state-of-the-art press.

The big benefit for the institute in having acquired the new Print press is how it will be able to attract more students to apply to study there, in addition to the heightened prestige it will garner across Canada in the printing community. According to the institute, it already produces top-rate graduates who are fit to work in the best places in Canada or even North America, but the new Print press will only help to round out students for the workforce all the more.

While other institutes of higher learning in and around Sherwood Park may not have the same, latest equipment for banner printing, among other things, that SAIT now can offer its students, it still is prudent for them to look to acquire more sophisticated Print presses in the future.
