Enjoy Ice on Whyte

The 9th annual Ice on Whyte Ice Carving Festival will take place at the End of Steel Park in Edmonton from January 13-22. Admission is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children 2-12. The festival will be open weekdays from 2-10 pm and weekends from 10am-10pm.

The Ice carving competition is sanctioned by the National Ice Carving Association; teams from all over the world including Mexico, the UK, and Russia travel to the area to compete in the competition. Each sculpture must be 7 feet and over. In addition there will be lots of fun activities for the entire family. There will be an ice slide, musical entertainment from artists such as the Dungarees and Brainwreck, the L’il Chipper Ice Carving Workshop, storytelling on the Northlands Stage and dancing with the Boogie Patrol. There is also a Facebook photography contest. The YESS café will keep everyone warm by serving hot drinks such as cocoa and coffee.

Sherwood Park printing companies have no doubt been helping the organizers with things such as Banners that celebrate the event and Posters for advertising. Any event can be made more festive with some well-placed Banners and Signs.

For many, winter is a long an arduous time. Events such as this show how much fun you can have outdoors in winter.

Ice of Whyte takes place at the same time as the city’s Chinese New Year festivities which will feature 10 ice and snow carvers from the twin city of Heilongjiang, China. There will be a shuttle between the two sites for those who are interested.
