Discover a new artist in Sherwood Park

Art in the Plaza, which began on June 24, takes place in the Strathcona Community Centre's West Plaza every Sunday until September 30 from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm. Admission is free.

Local artists apply to take part in Art in the Plaza and those accepted do not have to pay a fee to exhibit, enabling them to sell their original works of art to the public. All sorts of art are offered for sale at this event, including ceramics, pottery, jewelry, painting, fabric art, and mosaics. It is a wonderful opportunity for both the public and the artists because the public gets to discover a new artist and buy some original artwork, while the artist gets to sell his or her work to the public.

If they wish, artists could work with Sherwood Park printing companies to help them exhibit their works in the best light. A colorful banner could draw people over to where they are exhibiting their art or they could create a business card that they can give out to everyone who shows interest in their art and might wish to commission a work.

Several special events are scheduled to take place during the summer. For example, on July 15, Maureen Harvey will be in attendance to give public talks about the mural she painted on the Sherwood Park arena. Past events included a Canada Day pancake breakfast.

Everyone likes to discover new artists and Art in the Plaza is a great place to do that. It is also the chance for up –and-coming artists to make their names known in the community.
