Celebrate International Womens Day in Sherwood Park

March 8 is International Women’s Day, a day in which women around the world are celebrated. There will be many celebrations throughout Canada on this important day; Sherwood Park will be holding several events to honour women leading up the day and after.

From March 1-15 Strathcona County Library will be featuring a photography exhibit to celebrate the strength of women. The theme of the exhibit is “Strong Women, Strong Communities.” All county residents are eligible to submit their photographs to this exhibit until February 25. Photographs can be up to 11x14 inches, can be in any photographic medium, must be unframed and must be suitable for public display. Each person can submit up to three photographs which “must be of/symbolize a woman of Strathcona County.” Digital photographs are accepted but must be followed by a physical photograph. To make a stronger statement and to make their photographs appear more professional, those who submit might want to arrange with a printing company in Sherwood Park to have their photographs printed.

On March 8, Buffy Sainte-Marie will be the keynote speaker at a banquet at Festival Place celebrating International Women’s Day. The Strathcona County International Women’s Day Award will be presented at a ceremony at Festival Place on March 11. Up to ten women will receive this award which:

“celebrates women who have championed the rights of youth, family and seniors” who “are yesterday's heroes and tomorrow's role models”.

Women are nominated by an organization, an individual or a family who supply a letter of support.
