The 2012 Servus Heritage Festival will take place at William Hawrelak Park from August 4 - 6. Admission is free but a donation of non-perishable food for the Edmonton Food Bank will be appreciated. Food tickets are $25 for a sheet of 30.
The Heritage Festival will feature 62 pavilions highlighting 58 cultures. There will be international food including aboriginal dishes and those from Africa and the Caribbean, dance performances, the Citizen of the Year award, a citizenship ceremony, Kidzworld, the Hole-in-One Putt Challenge, and lots of other activities in which to take part.
Vendors will also be in attendance selling items such as crafts, artwork, and clothing. In all likelihood, those vendors will be working with Edmonton printing companies to prepare their booths for the festival. Good signage and a colorful banner will help draw attention to their products and ensure that passers-by do not miss what they have to offer. Those printing companies might also be providing the souvenir program that everyone who attends will receive and take home.
There are people from many cultural backgrounds who make their home in Edmonton and this festival will highlight most of them. Each culture has its own food and folk traditions and it is always fun to try a new food or learn a new dance. Events such as the Heritage Festival help us to understand our differences and to enjoy something new for a change, as they never fail to be informative and to explore the rich diversities of other cultures and what they bring.
