The United Way of Edmonton recently got its 2015 fundraising campaign off to a flying start.
The Edmonton Community Foundation and the city’s mayor made an announcement that a grant of up to a million dollars has been put in place that will match any donations to the organization that are between $1,200 and $10,000, as they feel this will encourage business and individuals to give generously.
The news about the grant was delivered during the campaign launch, which was held at the Shaw Conference Center. The keynote speaker for the event was Tonika Morgan, who was formerly homeless herself but managed to work her way up to being accepted into Harvard’s Masters of Education program. She noted that the funding will help to set up programs that give the homeless the courage and support they need to try to improve their lot. Brochure printers can produce a variety of promotional materials that can give the public more information about the organizations supported by the United Way and also details about what they can do to lend a hand.
The 2014 United Way campaign chair Ruth Kelley spoke of the importance of laying a good foundation to people’s lives through early education, addiction treatment and mental health support, and that the government, individuals and corporations all have a responsibility to do their part in giving others a hand up.
