Kids from Edmonton and the surrounding area will now have a chance to learn more about their home town and have a good time doing it.
Local author Jason Blower, who has degrees in both education and illustration, remarked that he combined these fields, along with the local history that he learned from his father who was an amateur historian, to create something he hopes kids will enjoy.
The new book teaches through a variety of curriculum-based activities, including coloring, and is geared at children who are in grades kindergarten to three.
Blower went on to say that it can also be expanded beyond what is in its pages to encourage readers to get out and explore the city for themselves. For example, it has an Edmonton passport that the kids can take around to different locations across the city so that it can be stamped at each one.
The project was funded, in part, through a crowdfunding campaign that raised nearly $14,000. A company that performs binding services can assist with the production of printed materials such as this, and it can work with the author to do so in a way that is well within budget.
The book, which is called ‘Hello #YEG’, can be purchased online via Etsy, as well as at major bookstores across throughout Edmonton and the surrounding area.
