Edmonton Transits new manager hits ground running

A newcomer has stepped into the role of manager of the Edmonton Transit System, and the company believes there could be big changes ahead

following a planned review.

Eddie Robar, who recently took over the management position, remarked that one of his first priorities will be to give a thorough review to all the city’s bus routes. This follows the tack he took when he was in charge of an overhaul to the transit system in Halifax during his time there.

He further went on to say that the last comprehensive review of the Edmonton system was 20 years ago, and philosophies and technology surrounding mass transit have changed since then. He wants to bring Edmonton in line with current views on what can make a public system work.

Robar plans on having the first draft of his review ready for the city council in about a year. A binding company will often be appointed to produce bound Copies of reports such as these, for a council, the public and other stakeholders to review.

One of the main goals of the changes will be to increase rider numbers, and Robar hopes to use a series public consultations to help make this happen. This way, he will know what the people are looking for, what works for them and what doesn’t, and this can then be applied in a way to make it more attractive to those who want an alternative to driving their own vehicle.
