Edmonton Humane Society hold fundraiser in the park

Even the recent high temperatures and blazing sun were not enough to keep a group of Edmonton area pet owners from coming out to lend support to a cause they believe in.

Along with their animal companions, they headed along to Pets in the Park, which was held in Hawrelak Park to help raise money for the Edmonton Humane Society shelter.

Some of the animals came dressed up in character costumers, while other owners chose to keep their furry friends as they were. There was water on hand for pets to cool off in, while medical teams were available in case there was a need for them because of the heat.

It was hoped that the day’s activities would raise between $140,000 and $170,000, and also make the public more aware of the importance of treating animals kindly and in a humane way. Poster printing firms could have helped to spread the word about this by producing Signs and other promotional materials that can displayed in public spaces.

Humane Society representative Deb Pope noted that one of the fundraisers for the day had collected more than $20,000 for the shelter, and she remarked that this showed how much support there is for the work that it does. She also pointed out that the society help animals that have no place to go, as well as getting them ready to be adopted.
