Edmonton coffee lovers treated to story with their daily cup

Customers of several Edmonton area coffee shops recently got a little bit extra with their usual cup of java.

The city’s coffee drinkers were given the treat of a short story to read that was printed on their coffee cup sleeves. It was a project thought up by Jason Norman, a writer in residence at the Edmonton Public Library.

The stories are short enough for a person to read them quickly while they enjoy their drink. It will help to showcase the work of local authors while providing a pleasant break for the reader. Norman got the idea from and American coffee chain, and he wanted to bring the idea to Edmonton while supporting local authors.

Six writers contributed their work to the project. The exact nature of the plan was not divulged until the authors had submitted their pieces, as he wanted them to be about a wide variety of topics and not just “coffee shop stories”.

Norman paid for the first run out of his own pocket, but he hopes that, since it was such a success, the shops will be willing to partner with him to cover the costs in the future.

A project like this brings the work of local authors to the city’s people, and a Print company can play a big role in helping to get it off the ground. Specialists can work with the planner to come up with a layout and design that best suits their needs.
