Daniel Engleman has found a novel way to repurpose shipping containers, and will be displaying his idea next week.
Engleman, who co-owns Honomobo, converts the large metal structures, which were originally intended to ship goods, into a viable housing option for those who are looking for a small space. They are assembled in Stoney Creek, and take about a week to install in their final location.
If he has his way, they could soon be seen more often around Edmonton.
The price tag for one of these units ranges between $99,000 to $147,000, depending upon its size and the amenities it offers. Since they are intended to be watertight and airtight, they are tough and can withstand almost any weather conditions.
Due to recent changes in city bylaws, these small size residences are now permitted on lots larger than 400 square meters, and Honomobo has set up a website that, according to Englemen, has received a lot of interest over the past month. Brochures can be designed by a printer to provide even more information and photos that give examples of what the finished homes might look like.
In order to help further inform the public about the benefits of this style of housing, several units will be on display in Churchill Square from June 3 to June 5. More information about them can be found on the company’s website.Get a Free Quote for Brochures
