Army cadets pay tribute to historic battle

A group of army cadets came together in downtown Edmonton at the weekend to help mark the anniversary of one of the most significant Canadian battles of World War One.

For the third year in a row, young men and women took part in a vice royal salute, march and full inspection while Hon. Donald S. Ethell and city councillor Sohi looked on.

The event commemorated the battle of Vimy Ridge in France on 9th April in 1917, in which four divisions of Canadian soldiers captured this strategic location in what is believed to be the turning point of the war.

It was one of the first times that that soldiers in Canada’s military played a crucial role in an overseas battle, and though they sustained heavy casualties, they not only held their ground, but gained the control of the ridge.

This historic event has become part of the training of army cadets across the country, and each year they spend a week learning about it.

It’s vital that young people learn about the history of their country, and Print companies can help. Not only can they produce informational Booklets and other printed materials, but they can also create black and white or full colour, large size reproductions of historical photos, Posters and other items than can really make the past come alive. These not only educate, but can also make excellent starting points for discussion.
