Power back on at Calgary zoo

A recent power cut caused an interruption at the Calgary Zoo, but work crews from Enmax worked hard and it has been restored.

According to a news release sent out by the facility, the cause of the problem was a grounded underground cable that helps to distribute electricity to the zoo. It has now been replaced and is temporarily above ground until the full repair can be finished, which is expected to take place quickly.

A backup provided power to run the cooling systems for the animals, such as the penguins, that need to have a cool environment. All of the creatures who reside in the facility made it through and are doing well.

The zoo had released the information that it was closed for the day on its website, but many didn’t see it and came out expecting to spend an afternoon with the animals. Staff members were on hand to let them know that it would not be open, and to suggest alternative activities for the day.

Officials noted that most were very understanding about the situation. Letters can be sent out to those who had purchased tickets for specific events to explain what happened and to let them know what arrangements have been made to make up for this. These can be printed on Letterheads that had been produced by a Stationery printing firm.

The zoo had planned to host a wedding that day, and this went ahead as scheduled.
