Calgary Mustard Seeds season campaign a big success

Calgary’s Mustard Seed recently announced that, thanks to all the support it received during this year’s seasonal campaign, it has exceeded its expectations and has enough donations to meet its short-term needs.

The ‘30 Days of Giving Hope’ campaign encompassed a variety of different fund and awareness-raising efforts, and according to a spokesperson for the organization, it far exceeded its expectations.

The ‘Warm feet for the Street’ drive collected hundreds of pairs of socks, while the ‘home for the Holidays’ was able to collect enough food and other items to provide food hampers and gifts for the 180 people in the group’s supportive housing. About 420 other food hampers and 600 Backpacks were filled and distributed to those in need.

A second goal for the campaign was to raise awareness about homelessness in the city. The organization’s website got hundreds of hits, as did its Facebook and Twitter pages. One of the points that was brought up is that only 40% of homeless people in the city are unemployed. The rest are working, but can’t find affordable housing. The spokesperson from Mustard Seed noted that the hope is that increasing awareness will help to bring about a change in this situation.

Print companies can help to make campaigns like those run by the Mustard Seed a success. They can promote them to the public, and also let them know how, when, and where they can help.
