This July, Calgary will be joining cities all over Alberta in hosting activities that will encourage families to enjoy fishing.

The province has organized a free Family Fishing Weekend, and it will introduce techniques that can be used to fish during the warmer months of the year. One of the parts of the program includes being able to fish without a license, although some exceptions to this may apply, as well as other regulations.

To take part in the program, families can fish at lakes and rivers, but they will not be able to do so in ones contained in a national park. Visitors to the province can take advantage of the opportunity as well, and the body of water must be open to fishers. The activity is part of a larger, nationwide effort to encourage people to enjoy the hobby.
