Calgarians rally around local business

A long time member of the Calgary business community has suffered a loss, but the public is rallying around them to help.

The Cat House, which has stood in the Stadium Shopping Centre for many years, was recently damaged in a fire along with four other businesses. The fire was extinguished, but the store needed some help.

An online funding page was set up, and the local cat loving community has stepped forward to lend a hand. So far, $17,500 has already been donated. The page noted that the money will be used to help ensure that employees will be fully paid and also that the feline centered enterprise will reopen as soon a possible so that it will be ready for the brisk holiday shopping season.

The Cat House had been a part of the city’s retail landscape since it first opened in 1990, and has been in its current location since 2000. It was well known for having a variety of cat toys and food, and had become a gathering place for cat lovers from all over the city.
