Rockingham receives Gold award for saving water

The City of Rockingham has been given a Gold award for being savvy with its water usage.

The award is part of the Waterwise Council’s program which recognises businesses, councils, commercial enterprise and land developments whose activities demonstrate positive actions that have been taken to achieve water sustainability.

The award recognises best practice, innovative ideas and leadership and aims to support an outcome which meets the goals outlined in the Water Sensitive City plan.

The program is run jointly with the Water Corporation and the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation and supports businesses and councils to be more sustainable in their water usage.

The WA State Government awards recognise councils who show exceptional leadership within the local community and who strive to continually improve and adopt waterwise principles across the water cycle.

The winners of the award were announced by Water Minister Dave Kelly at a ceremony organised by the Water Corporation.

The program was established in 2009 and has 58 participating councils reaching around 1.6 million residents.

As well as recognising achievements, the Waterwise program offers educational resources to schools and communities. Local workshops on water conservation techniques and waterwise gardening practices are run within the program throughout the year.

Promotion of upcoming events can use Flyers or poster printing to advertise and groups are encouraged to network with other participants in an effort to foster networking and further education.
