Popular learning programme returns to Rockingham

City of Rockingham Libraries will be presenting an exciting programme in February to inspire budding scientists.

The programme is for girls aged between 8 and 11 to have an enjoyable and fun experience looking at technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) subjects. A new aspect of STEM is studied every week, keeping students interested in each topic, meaning a missed week does not affect the learning process. The programme runs for eight weeks and is in its second year.

When surveyed, STEM careers do not feature highly in responses as possible careers for young women, and women are still under-represented in science careers. The programme shows how exciting and rewarding STEM topics can be and may lead to the next generation of female scientists.

Little Genius Science is a company that specialises in science workshops for clubs and schools throughout Perth and will present the course for Rockingham libraries. Learning programmes such as this often require printing services for educational resources and handouts.

The classes emphasise hands-on investigation in science to show kids the wonder of the scientific world and hopefully open up discussions between kids, parents and teachers about possible STEM careers.

Mary Davies Library and Community Centre in Baldivis will be the venue for the programme. Bookings have opened, and as the programme was extremely popular last year, booking early is recommended.
