Green energy proposed for Rockingham Industry Zone

The Rockingham Industry Zone has been chosen to host a proposed clean energy production facility announced by major corporate Woodside, alongside the Western Australian government.

The 130-hectare facility, to be called H2Perth, will produce hydrogen and ammonia, which will be used to deliver low-cost, hydrogen-based energy. Billed as world-scale at its full capacity, the project’s initial $1 billion plant will be capable of producing 300 tonnes of hydrogen daily, in a combination of blue and green hydrogen. A staged scale-up to production of 1,500 tonnes Forms part of future plans.

The project is forecast to deliver 2,000 construction jobs and 200 ongoing roles, and it has been heralded as a boost for the region’s economic development by Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin, who said in a statement that:

“This announcement regarding Woodside’s option to lease with DevelopmentWA in the Rockingham Industry Zone is welcome news for economic development in our community. Helping to facilitate growth in the Rockingham Industry Zone is a key part of the City’s Economic Development Strategy.”

According to the mayor, the city has been working in partnership with DevelopmentWA to promote the Rockingham Industry Zone, with a focus on potential strategic synergies for defence, energy, fabrication, minerals processing and transport and logistics businesses. Printing services commonly play a role in the promotion of major development projects through reports and information collateral.

Woodside’s plans are for community engagement on the H2Perth project to be underway soon, with construction slated to commence in 2024, subject to approvals and a final investment decision.
