Bike Week on the roll with breakfast ride along coastline

Community members are invited to take part in the 2017 Rockingham Community Breakfast Ride.

A City of Rockingham initiative, the event is held to mark Bike Week and is a family friendly activity that can be enjoyed by all ages.

Mayor Barry Sammels has urged families to grab their bicycles and rediscover the fun of cycling, which provides the added bonus of keeping people active and fit.

There will be two cycle courses – a challenging 11km ride and the more novice-friendly 5km cycle – with both taking place along the Rockingham coastline from a starting location at Port Kennedy’s Long Point.

Promotional Flyers also list a host of activities to be held after the ride, including free bicycle maintenance checks, free breakfast, and a host of children’s events ranging from face painting and a bouncy castle to giant games, giveaways, and prizes.

The shared paths along Rockingham’s beautiful coastline, the Mayor said, are an ideal venue for the Breakfast Ride. He added that work on the principal shared cyclist and pedestrian path linking Warnbro train station with the Baldivis town centre was now into its final stage and, when complete, will finalise the 4.2km path. It will also connect with established bike paths leading to the coast and Rockingham city centre.

Registration for the Rockingham Community Breakfast Ride, to be held this Sunday, March 19 as part of Council’s Summer Series of events, is free.
