Artists urged to enter 2020 Art Awards

Artistic members of the Rockingham community are being urged to enter the City of Rockingham 2020 Art Awards.

In launching the awards recently, Mayor Barry Sammels explained that ‘Connection’ will be the art awards theme and that the event, which is held on an annual basis, was a great way to show off local talent in the best possible light, adding:

“The City of Rockingham Art Awards is an annual event that provides artists with the chance to highlight their creative abilities across a range of categories.”

The 2020 awards will offer in excess of $20,000 worth of non-acquisitive and acquisitive prizes across a total of eight categories - People’s Choice, 3D, Youth, Local Resident, Emerging, Indigenous, Heritage and Open. Entrants, both emerging and established, must be based in Western Australia.

Art enthusiasts, friends and family will have a chance to view many of the artworks first hand when they are placed on public display at the Gary Holland Community Centre and Rockingham Arts Centre between May 2 and 17.

Displays such as this are often advertised via the media and flyer printing in the local area as they generate great interest.

A special awards ceremony is scheduled for May 2, where successful participants will be acknowledged for their work. Acquisitive prizes will see the artistic works added to the City of Rockingham’s art collection.

The deadline for entries is February 21.
