New Year to come early in Footscray

After a successful event last year, Maribyrnong City Council is staging its New Year’s Eve early-evening fireworks show again to end 2014.

The event gives families the chance to celebrate the New Year together without having to worry about children staying up until midnight.

The party begins at 6.30pm with live entertainment, including the Asanti Dance Theatre; Bombay Royale, an Australian band performing Bollywood numbers; and 100% Kylie, a Kylie Minogue tribute act. Youngsters will also be entertained by the carnival rides.

Food trucks will serve up a variety of food, or visitors can pack their own picnic and find a spot on the grass.

The fireworks will start at 9.30pm and the fun finishes at 10.30pm.

The event will be held in Footscray Park in Ballarat Road, so Footscray residents should be able to leave their cars at home and walk to the display.

Other visitors are asked to park at Victoria University or at the Melbourne Showgrounds, or to use public transport, which is free after 6pm on New Year’s Eve.

Marshalls will be on hand to guide people to the park from Footscray Station, and printing services could also be used to create Signs and Posters giving directions to the display.

The event is alcohol free and residents are also asked to leave their dogs at home.
