Residents of Footscray are invited to learn all about basic sewing skills in an easy half-day workshop.
The workshop is targeted to the absolute sewing beginner or those in need of a basic refresher. Participants will sew their own tote bag and, in the process, will learn the correct terminology for sewing related items, alongside basic sewing skills.
Skills taught will include how to thread a sewing machine, wind and change a bobbin, sew in a straight line and press seams. Also discussed will be how and where to buy fabric, and what features people should prioritise when looking to purchase a sewing machine.
Fabric for the tote bag and sewing machines are provided, and participants are welcome to return to the studio at a later date if they find they have run out of time to finish their bag during the workshop.
Tea, coffee and snacks will be provided, and the limit for workshop participants is six people to ensure everyone can be assisted personally and enjoy plenty of time on the sewing machines.
Workshop organisers often hand out Business Cards to participants, which can then be given to other people interested in attending similar workshops.
The workshops will be held from 1pm to 5pm on November 7 and November 12 at a studio in Elsternwick. For more information and to book a place, see the “Learn to Sew – Introduction to Sewing” listing on the Eventbrite website.
