The inner urban suburb of Footscray, five kilometres to Melbourne’s west, has been home to successive waves of migrants over the last few years. Consequently, Footscray’s central shopping area is wildly colourful, multicultural area teeming with life and bargains. Food is a big feature – there are over 130 restaurants in this suburb, covering ethnic cuisine from Europe, the Middle East, South Asia, South East Asia and Africa. The ethnic communities are well catered to by the Footscray Market, and of course, Little Saigon. Not surprisingly, there are many places of worship in Footscray, covering a variety of Christian, Buddhist and Muslim beliefs. Somehow appropriately, Footscray is also home to Lonely Planet Publications.
Footscray is well served for educational institutions. Aside from a number of State-run and private primary and secondary schools, the area also houses campuses of the Victoria University, including a range of TAFE programs, and the Austwide Institute of Training.
Local businesses and commerce – and Print companies such as Minuteman, of course - are set to benefit enormously from Footscray’s designation as one of Melbourne’s six Central Activities Districts, which aim to create busy CBD-like centres. Planning for Footscray includes conversion of old factory areas into a large number of housing units, a huge development to give rise to a mix of government offices with residential and commercial buildings, and redevelopment at the railway station. Print companies can expect not only a continuation of business card and Stationery printing for existing local shops and residents, but a huge increase in this and other specialities such as digital, brochure, flyer, and catalogue printing.
The many factories and warehouses still in Footscray are morphing fast into housing. The largest of these would be the Footscray Ammunition Factory, where new residents will have spectacular views across the Maribyrnong River, Flemington Racecourse and Melbourne itself.Get a Free Quote for Stationery Get a Free Quote for Print
