Families in and around Footscray can enjoy a summer evening under the stars while watching some blockbusters on the big screen during the festive season.
The City of Maribyrnong is holding a series of twilight outdoor movie screenings that young and old people can enjoy together.
The fun starts on Friday December 6 in Yarraville Gardens with a showing of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Based on the tale by Dr Seuss and starring Jim Carrey, the movie tells the story of the miserable Grinch who hates Christmas, but comes to love it after a young girl befriends him. There will be a second chance to see the film on Saturday December 14 at Johnson Reserve in Maidstone.
Footscray residents should look out for poster printing advertising their local movie showing next year. The Rise of the Guardians will be screened at Hansen Reserve in West Footscray on Friday January 10. In the movie, a group of guardians, including the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny, help Jack Frost to stop the world from falling into darkness.
The last movie will be Despicable Me 2, with more adventures of the Minions, which will be shown on Friday January 17 at Robert Barrett Reserve in Maribyrnong.
The main features start at 8:30pm each evening, and there will be entertainment beforehand from 7:30pm. Families are encouraged to take along a picnic to share but alcohol is not allowed at any of the screenings. People are also asked to leave their dogs at home.
