Central Melbourne gets into the Christmas spirit

With Christmas getting ever closer, now is the time to start getting into a festive frame of mind and central Melbourne Christmas Festival has plenty of events to help people do just that.

Music lovers will enjoy the Air Force Band at Melbourne Town Hall this Sunday, December 16, when they will be playing a mixture of traditional military marches, classical music and some Christmas inspired compositions. On Wednesday, December 19, the Arts Centre will host a celebration of the Victorian Opera, which is celebrating its seventh year. The Victorian Opera Chorus and Orchestra Victoria will be performing.

Families from Footscray should head to the City Square, where children can meet Santa and have their picture taken. Favourite photos can be printed through a printing company and transformed into gifts for relatives, or even printed onto canvas to create artwork. Children who want to post a letter to Santa need to hurry as all letters need to be in the special post box by Sunday December 16.

The Square has been transformed for Christmas, with a hedge maze featuring Rudolph the reindeer, a nativity scene, and an interactive storybook. Guests should not forget to Print a map from the City of Melbourne events website to ensure none of the city’s Christmas decorations are missed.

Carol services are a traditional part of Christmas and Melbourne has several to choose from, including Carols at Docklands on Sunday December 23 and Christmas Eve carols on the concourse outside St Johns, Southgate, followed by a special service of readings, poetry and carols inside the church.
