Artists works on display in their studios in Footscray

This month, Maribyrnong City Council in Footscray will be hosting Open Studios in the West for the 9th occasion.

This is an opportunity to visit local artists where they live and work. The tour will be self-guided, with the aid of a program, allowing participants to discover for themselves the studios and workplaces of local artists, as well as performers and designers.

Galleries and exhibitions will be part of the tour. Some of the artists even live where they work and the sites vary from backyard sheds to rooms set aside for the purpose in homes, to galleries and warehouses. Workshops will also be offered and pieces of art will be available for purchase.

Coinciding with the tour of the studios there will also be two exhibitions produced by the Maribyrnong City Council. Dangerous Deeds portrays a vision of the disability movement in Victoria and This Empty Chair is an acknowledgement of the writers imprisoned for their art.

Banner printing, Flyers, Postcards and Catalogues are likely to be used for Open Studios in the West, which will be held from Thursday, November 24 to Sunday, November 27 at various sites through the district. The event will be launched on the first day at 6:30pm at VU at MetroWest at Victoria University, 138 Nicholson Street, Footscray. Attendance is free and open to all.
