Artists urged to enter biennial Footscray Art Prize

Artists from all parts of Australia are being invited to enter the biennial 2019 Footscray Art Prize.

First held in 2017, the Art Prize provides an opportunity for artists to showcase their works in the centre of busy Footscray as well as to share in prizes worth up to $17,500.

Mayor of Maribyrnong Martin Zakharov said the Art Prize presented an ideal opportunity to help celebrate the artistic creativity and vibrancy of Footscray adding:

“Footscray is a thriving creative hub, and is developing an enviable reputation as a centre of arts and culture. We are looking forward to hosting the work of talented artists from across Australia here in Footscray once again.”

At the inaugural event in 2017, the category for Street Art was won by local artist Heesco with an entry entitled ‘Miss Citizen of the World’. His artwork remains on display at the Victoria University Nicholson Campus’s Building D. A delighted Heesco said the mural would always remain one of his most important artworks.

Participating artists in the 2019 Art Prize will vie for a win in four categories including Young Artist, Tertiary Prize, Street Art Prize and the main Footscray Art Prize. Entries will be accepted until March 15 with an announcement of winners set down for June.

Shortlisted works are set to be included in the Footscray Art Prize exhibition at the Footscray Community Arts Centre. Exhibitions often use promotional brochure printing to provide visitors with relevant information.
