Footscray artists are invited to apply for the position of Artist-in-Residence at Artsbox, an intimate and vibrant shipping container that has been converted into a multipurpose space for artists at all stages of their career.
The container is located outside the Footscray library and offers various different residencies suited to short-term art projects, including the development of original works, developing artists’ skills and exploring new ideas.
The space is suitable for all artists, from professional to emerging, and they may use the space to work on any genre of art in whichever medium they choose.
Successful applicants will be asked to engage with community members while they are working. This engagement could be anything from offering activities or workshops relating to the art project in progress to keeping the container door open and allowing visitors to ask questions and view the project.
For artists interested in holding exhibitions or workshops requiring more space, the Footscray library will also be available for use.
Artists in residence and those holding exhibitions may make use of flyer printing to distribute to people interested in their art and to allow interested parties to follow the development of new works and future exhibitions.
Applications for 2021 residencies at Artbox open in October. Those interested should see the Maribyrnong City Council website for more information and to apply for this position.
