Upgrade set to elevate skatepark status to world class

Residents throughout the City of Casey, including Narre Warren, will have access to a high-performance skating facility following upgrade work on The Shed Skatepark which is now underway.

According to Mayor Susan Serey, the undertaking, which was funded by Skate Australia and the Casey Council, will transform the facility into a unique, one-of-a-kind training hub suitable for skateboarding athletes set to compete in Tokyo 2020. She said it will also have a positive impact on the local community, adding:

“The upgrades are a very exciting addition to this already very popular venue, and will no doubt open up different opportunities for our grassroots athletes to reach their full potential and progress to higher levels of their sport.”

Design for the upgrade has involved a collaboration of ideas from the Revolution Action Sports Concepts, Skate Australia and The Shed Management. Upgrade work already underway involves the establishment of an international standard ‘street course’ complete with adjustable rails for use by both beginners and elite skaters.

Work on upgrades in stage two are set to begin in January 2020 and will see a Resi Surface installed. The foam-based surface will act as a vert ramp or half pipe extension and provide a soft and safe landing for skaters who undertake big tricks.

During the preparation process for upgrades such as this, a graphic design of the planned work is often created.

The Shed Skatepark is remaining open while upgrade work is carried out, with only specific areas closed according to the work schedule.
