A garden in Narre Warren South that was recently featured on ABC's Gardening Australia will be open to the public under the Open Gardens scheme.
Yallaroo is a showcase for native Australian plants from every state in the country. The garden demonstrates the owners’ knowledge and love of native plants especially grevilleas, correas and leschenaultias.
Winding paths in the front part of the garden lead through colourful beds of eremophilas, dampieras, correas, hibbertias and many other plants, creating a feeling of being in the bush. Closer to the house, a more formal feel is created with many different zygocacti and a fernery. The back garden has a productive orchard with thriving apples, peaches, plums, apricots and figs plus a loquat and macadamia. A colonnaded walkway covered with vines, hothouse and propagating area and private courtyard garden add further interest. To satisfy visitors’ curiosity all the plants are labelled.
When gardens are open to visitors on special occasions such as this, organisers often use banner printing to create signage to help visitors find the property.
Yallaroo Gardens will be open to the public on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September from 10am to 4:30pm. Entry costs $8 for adults, $5 for students, and children under 18 free. Plants and beverages will be available for sale. Visitors might also like to visit the Royal Botanic Gardens at Cranbourne which are close by.
