Motor racing ace takes the fast food track

Former Bathurst 1000 winner Jason Bargwanna has set his sights on a new challenge away from the racing circuit.

Following a decision to stop competing full time, the champion V8 Supercar driver has moved into the fast food business, investing in two Red Rooster stores at Fountain Gate in Narre Warren and Hampton Park.

Bargwanna’s first official appearance at his new Hampton Park store coincided with celebrations to mark the stage two opening of the Hampton Park Shopping Centre redevelopment. He signed autographs and chatted with fans.

Despite being voted in the top 50 all-time Australian Touring car drivers in 2010, Bargwanna is best known as a V8 Supercar champion. He raced in the series for 15 years, and won the Bathurst 1000 with Garth Tander in 2000, driving a Holden Commodore.

The successful duo’s appearance on the winners’ podium kept printing companies busy as motor racing fans and loyal Bathurst supporters stocked up on Brochures and Postcards as treasured mementos of the event.

Bargwanna made a switch to Ford for a few years before getting back in the seat of a Holden Commodore to co-drive with Tony D’Alberto in the 2008 Phillip Island 500 and the Bathurst 1000 endurance races.

Two years ago, the ace driver left the V8 Supercars Australia and jumped aboard the New Zealand V8s where, driving a Tulloch Ford Falcon in the 2011/12 season, he was runner-up to Angus Fogg.

Bargwanna and his wife Deborah, who was a former employee of Peter Brock’s, have two children who would no doubt be delighted with his new career path.
