The Narre Warren branch of the State Emergency Service was recognised for a job well done recently.
Set to celebrate its first decade of service to the community in 2015, the unit has already responded to more than 8000 requests for help from the local community.
Presenting the La Trobe Community Award was one way residents and the community as a whole could say thank you.
The 43 volunteers who make up the full membership of the Narre Warren unit were proud to receive the award, which is usually afforded to individual community members and not groups.
Tim Howell, who is Deputy Controller of the Narre Warren Unit, said it was great to see a reward for teamwork. The volunteers work on all-week rosters and also take part in annual awareness campaigns.
Members participate in all aspects of each campaign, including presentations and speaking one-on-one with younger members of the community.
In addition, they organise education activities for community and school events throughout the City of Casey.
The various events are publicised on the Victoria State Emergency Service website, through the media and via flyer printing to residents to ensure their educational program and public appearances gain the greatest exposure possible.
The La Trobe Community Award was offered at a special presentation by Jason Wood, federal member for La Trobe.
