Draft city strategy guided by community feedback

A draft of the council's Smart City Strategy for Narre Warren and the City of Casey is expected to be available for community feedback by October this year.

The strategy is being developed to identify the ways in which emerging and new technology, infrastructure and data can assist in overcoming challenges and presenting new opportunities that can support and strengthen the city's diverse environmental, economic and social needs.

The council recently engaged in a round of conversations with community members, schools and businesses to attract insights and feedback that would help in determining the draft Smart City Strategy. A number of priorities were uncovered and included community security and safety, economic recovery and resilience, sustainable and efficient transport, environmental sustainability and a boost in technological industries to assist employment.

Noelene Duff PSM, the city's Chair of Administrators, said community consultation was an essential part of devising the strategy, and that this year in particular had showed how innovation and technology could help build communities that are resilient. She added:

“To increase our community’s resilience, and support Casey’s present and future needs, Council is committed to learning how technology, data and innovation – Smart City infrastructure, can unlock new opportunities and help us overcome persistent challenges.”

Strategies such as this can affect every member of the community, from residents to local businesses, such as cafes and printing services.

Duff said the draft strategy is expected to available for review and feedback in October.
