Launched recently by Casey City Administrators Chair Noelene Duff, CEO Glenn Patterson, Football Victoria CEO Kimon Taliadoroson and Cranbourne MP Pauline Richards, the project is now in full swing, with work underway on a new community recreational facility and pavilion, which is expected to cost around $10 million. The Victorian Government is contributing $3.32 million to the project.
Duff described the municipality as one of Victoria's fastest growing, and she said with this type of growth comes many challenges in terms of infrastructure and services required. She added:
“After many negotiations with developers around what the space would be used for, Council, with the full support of the local community, has ensured this 6.8 hectare site will become a recreation space, as outlined in the Precinct Structure Plan.”
Once major sporting facilities such as this have been completed, flyer printing campaigns have often been enacted to spread awareness and attract new members.
The project, which has an early 2022 completion date, is set to include many features, ranging from a cricket oval and three soccer pitches to the multipurpose pavilion that will provide an undercover terracing and gathering area, community room, office, kitchen, storage, unisex amenities and change rooms. There will also be carparking, flood lighting, shared path networks, a district-level playground and cricket nets, plus landscaping and public art.
