Residents from Narre Warren and other suburbs in the City of Casey have been invited to participate in a competition to name the new Casey Cultural Precinct.
This followed the announcement by singing sensation, Guy Sebastian, of leading Australian architectural firm Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp as the successful design team for the $125m project.
The design, which features a roof likened to an eagle’s wings, reflects aspects of the area’s history, local culture and surrounding landscape. It was described as engaging, striking, functional and a vision for the future by City of Casey Mayor Geoff Ablett.
The next step for the precinct, due to be opened in 2017, is to name it and this challenge has been thrown out to residents.
Cr Ablett described it has a history-making opportunity for an individual, school or sport group. He said the Casey Cultural Precinct will service the community in the areas of entertainment, recreation, culture and art and the name should reflect its multi-purpose function as well as what it means to the local community.
The opportunity to star in a video with comedian Ben Price and also attend the VIP precinct opening will await the overall winner. The name selected is destined to be featured on future marketing materials such as Brochures and flyer printing as well as being featured at the precinct itself for many years to come.
As a result, the council is keen to attract interest in the competition from all sections of the community including schools and clubs.
