“I had bought a secondhand computer and thought if anything goes wrong... who do I ask?” he told the Berwick Leader.
Mr Lilley found that the Casey PC Interest Group was his answer. The Casey based group is designed to support and learn from local members and is part of the well-known Melbourne PC User Group.
“Our members learn from and help each other with computer information and communication topics in a friendly and social atmosphere,” says the group website.
Mr Lilley noted that the shared knowledge within the group is the main benefit, but there are other bonuses to being a member.
“I find it’s great to keep my mind active,” he said.
Mr Lilley revealed that current memberships have reached around 40.
With a large membership base, sharing tips and tricks in different programs becomes easy. The February meeting was all about advice on downloading photos, manipulating, reducing and preparing them for emails or printing services.
Mr Lilley told the Berwick Leader that even though most people only used five percent of a computer’s capacity, the group encouraged him to use more. He uses his laptop for many things, but mostly for emails and making Skype calls.
The Casey PC Interest Group meets fortnightly at Hampton Park Community House.
