Two new murals have been created for the visual benefit of Geelong, Victoria residents.

The murals were the work of more than 50 young people who combined their talents to beautify Norlane’s Centenary Hall.

The artwork was based around two conceptual ideas suggested by employees at fOrT Centre which is run by the City of Greater Geelong. The themes were The Secret Spring and Raven Sunset, and they were executed as part of the Centenary Hall Youth Arts Project.

The end result was a great example of the creative skills of youth living in Geelong, according to Councillor Kylie Fisher. She praised the joint collaboration of Karringal Create Youth and fOrT Youth in carrying out the project.

Fisher said all involved had created an inviting entrance to the area’s Centenary Hall that not only looks good, but also creates a welcoming atmosphere for visitors.

Murals such as the latest creations at Norlane have often featured on postcard printing in Geelong, and the councillor said she encouraged other youth in the area to become involved in similar projects including music, performance and arts by contacting fOrT.

She said taking part was not only fun, but also gave participants an opportunity to learn new skills.

Fisher added that the murals, which took a year to complete, also assisted in building a connection between fOrT and Centenary Hall, both of which provide community-based programmes to young people living in Geelong’s Northern suburbs.
