The free 2019 Geelong Calendar has been distributed to more than 110,000 homes throughout the city and has also sparked a major exhibition at the Geelong Gallery.
In the lead up to enlisting design and printing services for production of the Calendars, Geelong City Council held a competition in which they invited local photographers to enter images taken of Geelong.
The calendar competition attracted 700 entries, according to a Council spokesperson. Following a public vote, 12 images were selected for inclusion in the calendar. Geelong Gallery Director Jason Smith, who chose the winning cover image, said the calibre of images this year was very impressive.
Photographer Ash Hughes snapped the cover image which features a sunset shot of Eastern Beach. Another of his images was selected for display as February’s image.
The competition drew a great variety of images resulting in everything from innovative beach art and moody skylines to rural landscapes and coastal horizons. The calendar also details markets, special days and events to ensure locals are fully informed on what is happening in the region.
The winning entries are now the focus of a public exhibition being held at the Geelong Library and Heritage Centre until January 29. Residents who have not yet received a calendar can pick up their free copy at the exhibition.Get a Free Quote for Calendars
