Sensory gym created for children with special needs

Parents will be delighted to know that a new and innovative sensory gym has opened in Grovedale, Geelong.

We Rock The Spectrum is targeted specifically at families with special needs, although all families are welcome.

The sensory equipment is designed with specific skills in mind to strengthen and stimulate children. They include sensory-based toys and equipment to improve fine motor skills, suspended equipment such as swings for vestibular treatment and to develop balance, trampolines to build core and leg strength, zip lines and climbing frames. The equipment is surrounded by crash mats and pillows for added safety.

The gym owners have first-hand experience of parenting a child with autism and recognise the challenges families with special needs face from society, who may not understand how their children operate. As a result, they have created a supportive environment that provides a safe haven to play and interact with similar families. Their hope is that families will be able to build friendships and support networks through the gym.

An added bonus of the gym is a craft area where children can unleash their creative talents. Parents have an opportunity to enjoy a hot beverage at the local café while their children experience the various activities.
