The Geelong Youth Awards represents a celebration of the area’s young people, and locals now have a few weeks to put forward their nominations for this year’s awards.
Geelong residents are now being called upon to nominate young people aged 12 to 25 who they consider are making a real difference in everything from youth development and leadership to the arts, culture, sports, community work, and education in Greater Geelong.
According to Councillor Jan Farrell, who holds the Youth Portfolio, the awards present an opportunity to acknowledge some of the remarkable young people who are making a difference within the local community.
She said there were some amazing and wonderful achievements being made by the area’s youth and the awards were able to recognise at least a few of them.
Cr. Farrell added that it was heartwarming to see their passions and interests develop and grow as they matured, and that many were able to turn them into successful careers.
The Geelong Youth Awards provide each category winner with $500 towards training and education in their field of choice. Alternatively, they can use the funds to support their activities within the community. The awards categories range from advocacy to work in the community.
Nominations for the awards, which have been advertised via Brochures and on the council website, close on February 28.
