Walkers from Geelong are gearing up for the 80km “journey of discovery” challenge.
The Mountain to Mouth 2016, which is organised as part of the City’s Extreme Arts Walk, will this year include three substantial walk ceremonies.
Geelong Councillor Andy Richards, who heads the Arts and Culture Portfolio, said the ceremonies would provide a moving experience for audiences of the award-winning event, which has been a popular date on walkers’ Calendars for many years.
This year’s ceremonies include ‘Gathering of the Elements’, ‘Gathering of the City: Geelong Connected Communities’ and ‘Gathering of the Elders’.
Cr. Richards said each ceremony will celebrate the Geelong region’s land and people.
A two-day trek, the Mountain to Mouth will see walkers navigate their way from the You Yangs mountain range, across the industrial heartland of Geelong at nightfall and then into the city centre for Geelong After Dark arts celebration.
The next day at dawn, walks head off for the final leg, which takes them along the Barwon River, over undulating Bellarine farmland and onto Barwon Heads for sunset at the river mouth.
According to event Brochures, there will also be an option for walkers to ride the historic Bellarine Railway if their legs are too tired to finish the journey on foot.
