Geelongs Reconciliation Week celebration to be hosted online

Reconciliation in the Park, Geelong’s annual celebration of Reconciliation Week, will still be held this year despite current community isolation rules.

It is the main event for Reconciliation Week and is led by the local community. For 2020, the event is titled ‘In This Together’ and will be conducted as an online event, being hosted on a Facebook page. Online links and reading materials will be available to all who participate.

The celebrations will prove to display their usual enthusiasm and enjoyment of Aboriginal culture, stories, history and artistic expression through dance, story time, music and cultural activities. These will all be performed by local members of the Torres Strait Islanders and Aboriginal communities.

Reconciliation in the Park is an annual Reconciliation Week event organised by Geelong One Fire Reconciliation Group. One Fire is aimed at surmounting the injustices experienced by Aboriginal people when their land and traditions were taken from them, and seeks to obtain mutual understanding and respect. Brochure printing campaigns are a good way to promote cultural events like this, serving as an on-hand reminder.

National Reconciliation Week will be held from 27th May until 3rd June. In This Together will be held on 31st May from 10am until 3pm. More details regarding this online event will be available closer to the date.
